GIMP originally stands for "General Image Manipulation Program".

Like Photoshop, GIMP can be used to process digital graphics and photographs. Typical uses include creating graphics and logos, resizing and cropping photos, changing colors, combining images using a layer paradigm, removing unwanted image features, and converting between different image formats. GIMP can also be used to create animated images using an improved layers method. The full capabilities of the GIMP extend much further, however, and include advanced image editing, manipulation, and professional graphics creation.

GIMP will ensure that a Candidate:

• Is able to resize an image as well as work with the size guide.
• Is able to select using the ellipse or square Selector Tool.
• Can crop an image using the Crop Tool.
• Can adjust colour and manipulate tone effects.
• Understands layers.
• Is able to insert and edit text
• Can insert a gradient.
• Understands saving formats such as a Jpeg or Gif.

The GIMP certification requires approximately 20-30 hours of tuition followed by the successful completion of a simple 45-minute test.
